Joel Chicago's dinner party
By the 1990s I had conceived of the urban icons designs being applied to dinnerware. They’re all circles, right? And Judy Chicago had such a great idea. In 2003
the Rome design was accepted into Ceramiche U. Grazia’s
artists dinnerware program in Deruta, the ground zero of Italian majolica ceramics. All of Italian ceramics are hand-painted, which was not appropriate to the crisp geometry of the designs. But it was a joyful experience to see
the lead painter bringing them to life.
