The square on the water

Penn’s Landing is Philadelphia’s waterfront development on the Delaware River, with a great

deal of public open space. When Thomas Holme—William Penn’s surveyor— laid out Center City Philadelphia, it included five
squares. We perceived Penn’s Landing as Philadelphia’s sixth square, the square on the water.
